Berlin Germany stamps year 1990 Cartoons – Max und Moritz MNH On April 19, 1990, the Deutsche Bundespost Berlin issued a special set of four semi-postal stamps to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Max und Moritz, the famous 1865 German illustrated story by Wilhelm Busch. Released under the annual “Für die Jugend” (For the Youth) welfare series, these stamps carried a surcharge to raise funds for youth organizations. Interestingly, a matching but completely distinct set of four stamps was released on the exact same day by the main West German Deutsche Bundespost (Bund). Collectors often collect both sets together to get 8 different classic scenes.
