Japanese Imari Reticulated Porcelain Platter with Floral and Bamboo Decoration
$ 95.95
This Japanese Imari porcelain platter features an elegant oval form measuring 16 inches by 12.75 inches with a shallow 2.5 inch depth. The composition is richly decorated in the traditional Imari palette of underglaze cobalt blue and iron red with gilt and soft enamel accents. The central reserve is framed by a bold cobalt blue ring enclosing a stylized flowering tree rendered in iron red and blue, accented with gilt detailing. Surrounding panels alternate between floral sprays and bamboo motifs set against gilt grounds, creating a rhythmic decorative border. The rim is further enlivened with reticulated openwork cartouches, a refined detail that adds visual lightness and craftsmanship to the form. The reverse is decorated in underglaze blue with stylized foliate motifs, consistent with late 19th century export wares. The quality of painting, balance of color, and pierced detailing are characteristic of Meiji-period Imari production intended for Western markets. This platter displays well either wall-mounted or as a centerpiece on a table or console. Height: 12.75 in (32.39 cm) Width: 16 in (40.64 cm) Depth: 2.5 in (6.35 cm)
